Series 65 with HYMAX GRIP® technology

There are many situations that require valves and hydrants with additional restraining power. AVK valves and hydrants equipped with the patented technology of the HYMAX GRIP®. Designed using HYMAX’s innovation and patented technology, our flow control solutions work with ductile iron, PVC and HDPE pipes and are suitable for a wide variety of applications.

The Series 65 valve is our all ductile-iron valve that meets or exceeds the requirements of AWWA C515. Every valve is 100% tested beyond AWWA C515, including low pressure testing.  All valves are certified to NSF 61 and NSF 372, meeting all requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act.


HYMAX GRIP® end connections are factory installed

  • Fast and easy one-bolt connection works for all pipe types, is flexible and self-restrained
  • HYMAX GRIP® meets or exceeds all specifications of AWWA Standard C219, NSF-61 and NSF-372
  • End rings: 1.5” - 3”: Steel Casting ASTM A216 WCB.- 4” - 12”: Ductile Iron Casting ASTM A536 grade 60-40-18
  • Bolts, Nuts and Washers: ASIS 304 Stainless Steel impregnated with zinc via the MAG process
  • Gasket: EPDM compounded for water and sewage. Certified to NSF-61 and NSF-372 standards for contact with drinking water
  • Gasket bridge: AISI 304 Stainless Steel
  • Spherical spacers: AISI 304L Stainless Steel
  • Coating: Fusion bonded epoxy for enhanced corrosion protection NSF-61 and NSF-372. - Average thickness 14 mil
  • Working temperature: EPDM: -20°F UP TO +125°F, NBR: -4°F UP TO +125°F
  • Minimum pipe insertion of 3.6“
  • Dynamic deflection up to 4° per side

AVK bolting and gasket system

  • 316 stainless steel bonnet bolts will never come in contact with water or soil and are 100% protected against corrosion 
  • Unique gasket has round inserts for bolts, which are countersunk into the tapped valve body and capped with hot-melt 
  • Easily disassembled after years of service - but, you’ll never need to... 

Stainless steel stem

  • 400 series Stainless Steel is AVK’s  standard stem material, providing twice the yield strength required by AWWA; Potential for bent and broken stem is eliminated 
  • Threads are cold-rolled, work-hardening the steel, and ensuring smooth thread edges for low operating torque 
  • Unique wiper-ring protects stem from contact with soil and water 

EPDM wedge w/ captive wedge nut

  • Standard EPDM wedge is taste and odor free, stands up to chlorine and other disinfectants 
  • Wedge nut is fully encapsulated in the wedge, resulting in efficient mechanical motion and 10X the open/close operations vs. competitors; Provides higher torque resistance and prevents rubber wear and leakage 

Serial number

  • Every AVK valve has a unique serial number engraved on the stem – also shown on the valve label; Serial number provides complete traceability to the date the valve was built, and every operation performed throughout the manufacturing process 
  • AVK is the only gate valve and fire hydrant manufacturer in the USA with a Quality Assurance program that requires serializing every product for traceability 

Anode lug

  • Unique tapped lug and set screw provide a metal-to-metal termination point for cathodic corrosion protection 
  • Can accommodate up to 2 - #10 AWG and may also be used as connection for tracer wire
